The Technical Memorandum states that “action to prevent PFAS or other contamination into the water system should be undertaken, such as monitoring the use of fire foam or other chemicals containing PFAS and report such usage to the Airport Advisory Commission.” While this is important, the possibility of existing PFAS contamination in the soil and water at the LVK site must also be considered before planned expansion.

According to the Regional Water Board, the City of Livermore is required to submit an additional Addendum to the PFAS Workplan by 4/28/2025. Geosyntec, the city’s consultant, has 120 days from the date of the Regional Water Board’s approval letter to submit a final report. The Regional Water Board has not issued an approval letter yet, so it’s quite possible that the PFAS final report will not be available until sometime in fall 2025. It would be prudent for the City Council to pause LVK expansion plans until the Geosyntec final report is released.
