I thank the Council for evaluating the Citizen Advisor Committees. Unfortunately, the recommendations are in the wrong direction. We should have more public input and not less. The Committees provide direct communication and discussion of issues by citizens on many community issues. We need more public involvement and not less.

It is not the committee’s fault that they have not been as productive as the city would like. It is a lack of support from the City including failing to appoint full memberships and not calling meetings.

Sunsetting the Beautification and Historic Preservation Committees is especially disappointing. These are two committees that help the City keep that Community character that is so important. Making the suggestion that interested persons can apply for the City Historian position is not adequate. And transferring the Youth and Commission for the Arts to the Library in dismissive also.
